From mid July to the end of August, Humpback Whales take a holiday of their own leaving the cold waters of Antarctica to frolic in the Great Barrier Reef and give birth to their young calves. You can enjoy a front row seat to this natural spectacle on this Cairns adventure which includes a 90 minute whale watching tour and a choice of 2 hours or 4 hours free time on Fitzroy Island. Choose the 9am ferry from Cairns and enjoy up to 4 hours free time on Fitzroy Island plus a midday Cairns whale watching cruise. However, if you prefer a sleep in, the 11am ferry departure from Cairns gives you the option to join the midday Cairns whale watching cruise with only 2 hours free time on Fitzroy Island. Time
  • Tours depart Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal at 9am and 11am and return at 2.50pm and 4.50pm
  • 9am passengers may be able to extend their time on Fitzroy Island by an extra 2 hours. This is only available on request and cannot be booked online
  • For passengers not requiring free time at Fitzroy Island an earlier departure from Fitzroy Island to return to Cairns at 2.50pm may be available on request however cannot be booked online

  • Check-in is 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time at the Fitzroy Island Adventures counter inside the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal

  • Tours are conducted in known whale hot-spots and co-incide with the peak sighting period for Humpback Whales in Cairns. Despite our best efforts, whale encounters cannot be guaranteed and refunds not available in the event whales are not seen
  • Tours are weather dependent and may need to be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice. In the rare event we deem the weather too bad to travel and you are unable to reschedule, a full refund will be provided
  • Local ID: Valid local photographic ID must be provided at check-in or you will be asked to pay the difference in price. Passengers must live between Townsville and Cooktown to qualify
